Starting the 2026/27 Academic Year

Hiya! I’m Jenna, the current President of Hands-On! A STEM Outreach society. I am really looking forward to the year ahead. It is off to a great start, having already run a selection of workshops. This term, we are running a workshop once a week at a local school across a range of different year groups which we are very excited about.

We have had two activity design meetings this year with some really great ideas in development. We are creating a workshop all about space, letting students explore the topic of exoplanets, and one about buoyancy where students need to think about suitable materials for boat making.

The summer two of our members (myself and Hannah) completed a summer project in science outreach. Our output was a website which contains five physics outreach workshops, including teaching resources and science education theory explaining our design decisions. These workshops can be found on The PIER Project website, and will also be offered by Hands-On.

We had a great fresher’s week, and met so many university students interested in science outreach volunteering. Thank you to everyone that came along to boards game night, picnic and national museum trip, it was great to speak to you all.

Our first social at West Nic’s Records Pub Quiz was a lovely night. Team RON had a good run, leading throughout the whole quiz but sadly fell at the last round.

I look forward more Hands-On events this term, whether that be volunteering opportunities, activity design sessions or pub quiz nights!
